The Jesus Bible

December 19, 2019 by Anne Campbell Leave a Comment

A Contemporary Design

The Jesus Bible Artist Edition is not only the compelling story of life, but also a beautifully designed book that adds a unique and contemporary edge. The Jesus Bible is unique in that it has taken the familiar and made it modern.

With contributors including Louie Giglio, Mac Lucado, John Piper, Ravi Zacharias, and Randy Alcorn, this edition includes book introductions, essays, over 300 full-page articles, and nearly 700 sidebar commentaries, as well as room for notes and journaling and a dicrionary-concordance. Whew!

I knew this artist’s edition was perfect for me when I saw the color scheme. I love the modern design of it. My only disappointment is that the ribbon bookmarks do not coordinate with the colors of the cover. Mine are not as pictured on the website, and the ‘Christmas tree’ green would have been lovely in a blue or teal instead. It’s a tiny detail, but I would like to have seen the color scheme complimented throughout.

The typeface is nicely sized, so even the side notes are legible for someone with vision issues.

Meet Jesus in Every Chapter

Now for the truly important features–the editorial and contributor articles! Louie Giglio has a special way of writing that clearly and concisely engages the reader. His “Welcome” editorial really sets up the nuts and bolts of this Bible and explains why it is so special. I love how he explains the Bible as a story in six acts, and how he emphasizes the presence of Jesus throughout the entire Bible, from Genesis to Revelation:

He is as present in the Garden of Eden as he is in the garden tomb. The entire story points to him. Jesus himself affirms this when he said, ‘You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me’ [Jn 5:39].

(p. ix)

The study features included in The Jesus Bible are stellar, and I think they will especially appeal to young adults who are seeking to learn more. This Bible is an investment, but one that will last.
