The Great Thing about a Flat Tire

December 17, 2013 by Anne Campbell 1 Comment

We got stranded the other day when my tire went flat, immediately after I drove through a pot hole that jumped out in front of me. My tire didn’t even slowly fizzle out–it just flattened. Great. Friday afternoon at fifteen minutes till closing time.

I’ve never changed a tire, although I’ve held the flashlight a few times.

I called our regular auto shop, and though they were busy and getting ready to close, they agreed to send someone.

The boys and I hung out and waited, and it was well after closing time when the mechanic arrived.

The great thing about having a flat tire?

When I told the mechanic that my oldest just got his permit, he asked if we’d ever changed a tire for driver’s ed. Um, no . . . “Well, let me show you how. It’s easy!”

He ended up giving my boys a hands-on homeschool lesson for the next half hour, as he patiently taught them the process of changing a tire from start to finish. And, now I can add my sons to my list of tire-changers!

Having a flat tire is a great thing!
