Four Favorite Little Critter Stories in One Collection

The Little Critter Little Blessings Collection includes four favorite stories from Mercer Meyer. Little Critter learns how to be cooperative, how to be thankful, why being truthful is important, and how to be grateful for things he already possesses in these faith-based stories for young children.

Little Critter has been a big part of my kids’ childhood, as Mercer Meyers’ characters were part of our nightly bedtime read aloud time. We have many favorites from the series. This volume contains the best of Critter’s life lessons in these stories that help teach kids virtues:

You Go First

Little Critter is feeling like life isn’t fair, because he doesn’t think her ever gets to have the first turn. He ultimately learns the Golden Rule after learning the ‘hard’ way through several incidents.

It’s True

After telling some untruths, Critter finds himself in a sticky situation. He learns the power of truth and forgiveness through his family and friends.

Being Thankful

This is my favorite story of the collection. If you’ve ever had to tell your kids they can’t have something, you will relate to this story of Critter’s constant wanting more, more, more. His grandparents spend some time with him, teaching him to be thankful for what he has. After reading this one, you might want to give your kids their own ‘thankful rock’ like Grandpa does for Little Critter in the story.

We All Need Forgiveness

A series of events in this story causes Little Critter to learn about the power of forgiveness, both as the forgiver and the one being forgiven.

The Little Critter Blessings Collection is great for a young reader, because of it’s short sentences and minimal text blocks. Plus, there are bright, colorful pictures on each page, making the stories even more engaging. My favorite way to share this book with a child, however, is as a read-aloud. The life messages in the stories are wonderful conversation starters for parents and children, so reading aloud creates a special time to share these lessons together.
