My junior chef and I have been planning our holiday fare with The Berenstain Bears’ Holiday Cookbook: Cub-Friendly Cooking With an Adult by Mike Berenstain. A cookbook written just for kids with family-friendly recipes, this colorful Berenstain Bears themed cookbook features clear and simple recipes and full-page photos. This cookbook is designed so that more experienced kid cooks could pick it up and use it independently, or adults can guide younger chefs through the steps to create yummy meals.
Encouraging Independence in the Kitchen
The “What you need” sections are written in a larger font than the directions, and are perfect for working on reading skills and learning to understand measurements. With a little guidance through the directions from an adult, kid chefs can handle most of the steps, such as lining a baking sheet with foil and spraying it with cooking spray, whisking ingredients, and even preheating the oven and setting the timer.
There are some really cute concoctions in the Holiday Cookbook, including Gobbler Apple Muffins that look like Thanksgiving turkeys, patriotic Freedom Trifle for Fourth of July, and Rabbit Food salad for Easter. We can’t wait to make the Colorful Christmas Poke Cake and the Cozy Hot Cocoa this holiday season.
Holidays are for Cooking
The Berenstain Bear’s Holiday Cookbook covers these major holidays with mouth-watering snacks, appetizers, entrees, and more:
