As a mom to three teens, I admit that I have begun to dread the ’empty nest’. And as a homeschool mom, I wonder what I’m going to do when all three of them are graduated. Barbara Rainey and Susan Yates’ Guide to the Empty Nest intrigued me, because it is written by two moms who have experienced what I’ve been dreading, and not only have they survived, they have also thrived during this new season of a mom’s life.
The authors acknowledge the period of grief we experience as our kids leave the nest, and they offer encouragement and understanding, along with a game plan for getting through it.
Guide to the Empty Nest begins with chapters addressing the emotional roller coaster of facing the empty nest and moves into actionable steps women can take to move on with their lives.
Recognizing the different emotions this season of life brings with it, the authors address questions like:
- Who am I now?
- What should I do with myself?
Does anyone need me? - How do I relate to my children?
- And how will it affect my marriage?
Is it okay to feel sad? - Or even thrilled?
Guide to the Empty Nest is a great resource for moms who are facing the empty nest years now or down the road.
