Forever My Little Boy

March 31, 2016 by Anne Campbell 2 Comments

Loving Your Son for Now and for Always

Are you the parent of a son? If so, you know how each milestone he reaches is both sweet and wonderful, while also tugging at your heartstrings as you realize he’s growing up and becoming independent from you. Beloved author Karen Kingsbury’s Forever My Little Boy is a sweet gift book for moms or dads who are seeing their sons through a new stage of life. As they grown up, the bitter-sweetness of the experience is touchingly portrayed in a short story format, with Scripture verses and prayers sprinkled throughout.

My favorite thing about Forever My Little Boy is the way the illustrations and story go together so beautifully. The tiny details included in both the pictures and the text perfectly capture the feelings a parent has as she watches her child gain independence:

“How quickly the baby boy became a one-year-old. He didn’t want to be held anymore–her wanted to walk. So Mom got the camera, Dad knelt down, and they held their breath. Then crookedly, very crookedly, their boy took his first steps” (p. 9).

Forever My Little Boy would make a nice keepsake gift for the parent of a new graduate or newlywed. It even has a presentation page to make it a special reminder of a celebration of a son’s milestones. Even though the book is addressed to ‘my little boy,’ the sentimentality of it seems to be something a parent would enjoy more than the child himself.

The publisher provided a review copy of Forever My Little Boy.

I haven’t heard of this book but as the mother of a boy, it really sounds wonderful. I;m going to remember to look for it.

This sounds like a sweet book, and a great gift for Mother’s Day or Father’s Day to later be gifted back to a son when he has children.
