Find Your Extraordinary

What if you could find your extraordinary?

Jessica Dilullo Herrin, CEO and founder of Stella & Dot, shares her secrets for entrepreneurial success in Find Your Extraordinary: Dream Bigger, Live Happier, and Achieve Success on Your Own Terms.

“Women have mastered guilt.

Instead, we need to master happy.”

Jessica begins by explaining that in order to cultivate an entrepreneurial spirit, you do not necessarily have to be an entrepreneur. She writes about how we can all achieve success by starting internally, defining what makes us happy, and proceeding to take the necessary steps to get where we want to be. The “6 P’s” of an entrepreneurial spirit provide the framework of the rest of the book. Jessica discusses these essential tools for moving from an ordinary life to an extraordinary one as you set goals and reach them. She writes at length about the power of a positive attitude and a positive perspective, while acknowledging the importance of people to support you along the path.

Time management is a big issue for busy moms. Jessica is realistic and candid about dealing with all that life throws at us: “…I do a lot every day, every week, but I don’t do it all. I do only what matters, and what I love. And I don’t regret it or feel guilty about it either. Why? Regret and guilt are among the most futile of emotions–and a terrible waste of time” (p. 210).

The thing I like best about Find Your Extraordinary is that Jessica’s plan is applicable to a variety of situations, and you don’t have to work outside the home to benefit from her tips. As a blogger, I find most of the content of the book to be relevant to what I am doing. The time management steps are particularly helpful, and the personal anecdotes the author includes demonstrate that this isn’t just a fluffy self-help book. Rather, in sharing the secrets to her success, Jessica comes across as both a friend and mentor, and many women can benefit from her experience.

I totally resonate with the lack of time management but I’m slowly learning to do better. I love this post for empowering me as a woman and a mom to enjoy our status and not necessarily feel hindered by it. I’m going to check out the library and see if I can get my hands on Jessica’s book.

Oh love that quote — it is so easy for moms to feel guilty about what they aren’t doing instead of good about what they are.

This sounds like a great read! Time is something I am always short on so the time management tips alone would be really helpful.

Sounds like just the book I need to read. I do try to do it all and end up feeling overwhelmed and incompetent.

This sounds like a good book to make time for (yes, time management is always a difficulty).
