4 Reasons We Love Mount Hideaway Mysteries: Exes and Oh No’s

January 21, 2020 by Will Campbell 8 Comments

Looking for a family movie night to enjoy? Mount Hideaway Mysteries: Exes and Oh No’s is available on iTunes/AppleTV as well as Google Play Movies. The film is a mystery-romance following a young woman who returns to her home town and embarks on mysteries with the help of her homeschooled childhood friends.

Shot in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley of Virginia with an all-local cast and crew, Mount Hideaway Mysteries: Exes and Oh No’s makes for fun family-friendly viewing. Check out the trailer below.

My family loves Mount Hideaway Mysteries! The film incorporates gorgeous scenery with likable characters into an intriguing mystery that keeps you guessing.

I appreciate the portrayal of parents in the film as intelligent and relevant rather than goofy or inept. This is a common trend in movies, but Mount Hideaway Mysteries is different. The cute animals are a plus, too!

Here are four reasons you don’t want to miss Mount Hideaway Mysteries and its Instagram-famous celebrity hedgehog.

Entertaining and family friendly

Even with the options we have in the streaming age, it’s still difficult to find family-friendly entertainment that’s actually entertaining. As a result, being appealing to all ages and being appropriate for all ages are often two different things.

Unfortunately, quality family entertainment is often hard to find. Luckily, that’s Mount Hideaway Mysteries‘s goal. Offering an engaging plot that includes elements like romance and a murder mystery without including moments where you feel the urge to cover your kids’ eyes. The storyline is intelligent, featuring spy elements that keep you guessing, and includes strong and empowering female characters.

A faith component — but it isn’t preachy

Many of the characters are religious and attend church, and one of the main characters is a pastor. However, the film avoids the pitfalls of being overtly preachy. Christianity plays a role in many of the characters’ lives, but that’s not the sole focus of the film.

It is a pleasant change-of-pace to see homeschoolers depicted in a respectful way. Homeschooling is weaved into the plot well. This makes for a positive and relatable portrayal that homeschoolers will love. Not to mention, many of the cast and crew are homeschoolers or homeschool grads, too!

A unique community-based experience

Above all, the film is truly Virginian. Made outside the “Hollywood Machine,” Mount Hideaway Mysteries is something truly different.

The film showcases the beauty of the Shenandoah Valley and surrounding areas and also utilizes the skills of local talent to make for a communal viewing experience. Watching the film, it feels as if you’re truly visiting its small-town setting.

With gorgeous scenery with likable characters, and an intriguing mystery, Mount Hideaway Mysteries: Exes and Oh No's is family fun that keeps you guessing. Learn more at https://www.mounthideaway.com/anmylrntbl/

I am one of the actors in the film and for all of the reasons mentioned above is why I wanted to be part of this project. I am homeschooled, but I enjoyed seeing how stereotypes are debunked and of course, the family friendly aspect of it all. My 9 year old son truly was hooked (and had nothing to do with me!) we enjoyed the mystery without being scared. Thank you for this and we hope and want to make more quality movies!

Oh this sounds great! We have such a hard time agreeing on family shows and it can be so hard to find programs that are actually family friendly. Pinned.

I am clearly missing something. This title popped up and I thought it looked interesting and purchased the movie which just seemingly ended without wrapping up story. Is there a part 2 I am not seeing?
